Quality Control
The blocks originate from World Wide Stone Corporation™ Durango Stone™ quarries and are transported to our three factories in Durango, Mexico. Sub-standard product both in block and sawn form are sold. The higher quality material is kept for our production and all of our products are produced to the highest level of International Industry Standards. Due to quality control procedures in our factories, we are unable to manufacture inferior products. Meticulously thorough attention is applied to every facet of our production stages, from cutting of the block at the quarries to packaging of the final product. World Wide Stone is renowned for our quality of all our Durango Stone™ products.
Tumbled/Unfilled Production
The Durango Stone™ tumbled products from World Wide Stone Corporation™ are "Truly Tumbled™", not done by hand held machines. What this means for
you as well as your invaluable customer base is of tremendous value, especially in the long run.Our process exposes all voids below the surface that are inherent in the other methods of tumbled Mexican Stones, which are typically produced by an application of acid across the surface and hand ground edges. Not only does our procedure lend itself to a stronger surface of the stone itself, but by doing this we expose the cavities that would form naturally over a period of time from normal wear and tear. Dusting that also occurs and lasts for an extended period of time is non-existent in Authentic Durango Stone™ due to the fact the stone is also cleaned during the tumbling process.
In addition, due to the fact our material is Truly Tumbled™ our tiles have naturally rounded edges unlike hand ground products whose edges contrive predictable details.
Filled and Honed
The Filled and Old World Honed™ Durango Stone™ products available from World Wide Stone are unsurpassed in quality. A great amount of detail and pride go into every individually inspected piece.
Our process consists of filling the stone, honing with 400-grit, refilling the stone and then honing again using 16 320-grit heads. This achieves a very hard, semi-sheen surface that resists the wear patterns commonly associated with travertine floors. It also ensures the surface film that is found on a vast majority of our competitor’s material is non-existent. The process also makes the floors much easier to clean. Nobody wants to go through the expense of having their floors honed in place in the future. The majority of other plants use 200 to 250-grit heads to hone their products. These are great selling features that you can use over your competition.
Additionally, our fill is color-matched and selected to run with the tonality of the stone, creating an aesthetically pleasing palette of color. Only from Durango Stone™
All Filled and Old World Honed™ Durango Stone™ products are fully gauged and calibrated. Half sizes for patterns are nominal allowing for grout joints in "block" patterns both in finishes, ensuring the installer a fighting chance to achieve a wonderful finished installation that they can be proud of. True sized tiles are a beautiful thing!
A 1-mm micro beveled edge is applied to the tiles to aid in ease of installation and to avoid the chipped edges so often seen in square cut tiles.
The advantage to this is three-fold:
One being the forgiving nature of the edge in installation to help eliminate lippage.
Secondly, all sharp edges are eliminated, not only increasing the safety factor in regards to barefoot traffic, but also the running of hands across the surface. A very important factor to consider for your clients who may have children playing or crawling across the floor.
The third advantage is the after installation, chipping that commonly occurs from foot traffic on a square edged stone does not occur.
